holidays:

The Island of Zanzibar consists of two main islands, Pemba and
Unguja with some 50 smaller islands surrounding the
archipelago. Unguja is the main and most developed
island. Many people refer to it as Zanzibar, so
please do not get confused when we refer to it as
Unguja. The population of Zanzibar is about 800,000
people, of which 150,000 are found on Pemba.
The
majority of people inhabit Stone Town (which is the
"capital" of Zanzibar). Many of the rural people
prefer the lush Northern section of the island,
whilst the East Coast has coral rag, and provides
the most stunning beaches and holiday destinations.
These areas are so sparse that at the right time of the year, you
may even have a whole stretch of beach to yourself. |

Things to do: |
|
Zanzibar Island (known locally as Unguja) is
part of the Zanzibar archipelago of islands that
include the Pemba Islands, and several islets.
It is located in the Indian Ocean, about 25
miles from the Tanzanian coast, and covers an
area of 1464 sq km.
This sun-drenched isle is the home of endless
sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs, and
clear blue waters. For the island adventurer,
Zanzibar offers some of the world's finest
snorkelling and diving grounds, fantastic deep
sea fishing and numerous water sports
activities.
For those seeking a more relaxed pace, wander
along the narrow winding streets of historic
Stone Town with its vivid markets and colourful
bazaars, or take in the cultural remnants left
by one of the worlds largest salve trading post.
Then there's always relaxing at the beach or
frolicking in the turquoise shore of Zanzibar's
many beautiful beaches. Commonly known as the
Spice island Zanzibar is famous for spices
such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla,
cardamom, peper and others. Spice tours are also
a popular excursion. |
