Crater, Lake Manyara, Olduvai
Gorge, Tarangire National Park,
and Mount Kilimanjaro, as well
as having its own Arusha
National Park on Mount Meru.

Kilimanjaro International
Airport, and regional flights

|
|
Day 1: |
|
Arusha: |
|
Enjoy a leisurely
breakfast today before
setting off on the
beginning of our
cultural experience. We
explore the town centre
before participating in
Swahili language lessons
and learning about
Cultural Rites of
Passage. Return to the
lodge late afternoon for
swimming and relaxation
before dinner. |
|
|
Day 2: |
|
Machame Cultural tour: |
|
Another culture-filled
day mixed with a
community feel as we
head to the foothills of
Mt Kilimanjaro for the
Machame Cultural Tourism
Program. We are met by
successful women’s
groups and take a tour
of the local market and
cheese factory followed
by a traditional Chagga
lunch. Hopefully we will
also be blessed with a
view of Africa’s highest
mountain - and the
‘Snows of Kilimanjaro’. |
|
|
Day 3: |
|
Arusha - Tarangire National Park: |
|
The Tour starts with the drive to
Tarangire, Tanzania's third largest
national park and sanctuary for an
unusually large elephant population.
Majestic baobab trees are an
interesting feature of the park,
dwarfing the animals that feed
beneath them. Animals concentrate
along the Tarangire River, which
provides the only permanent water
supply in the area. There is a great
diversity of wildlife including
lion, leopard, cheetah and up to six
thousand elephant. |
|
|
Day 4: |
|
Tarangire - Serengeti National Park: |
|
Drive off across the
natural migration path
of the inhabitants of Tarangire towards the
Crater Highlands after
breakfast, and climb the
escarpment to be met
with a sweeping view
across the Great Rift
Valley.
No visit to this part of the world would
be complete without calling in at
Olduvai Gorge – site of the Laetoli
hominid footprints, Oldupai Mu- seum and
many fossilized hominid, animal and
plant specimens. A self-guided tour of
the museum and a short lecture provides
an excellent start to learning more
about the history of hominids and other
mammals.
A short
visit to a nearby Maasai Village
rounds off the morning of your Tanzania
Tour before you finally enter the
Serengeti National Park. On entering the
Serengeti it is immediately apparent why
the Masai called this Siringet - “the
place where the land moves on forever.”
|
|
|
Day 5: |
|
Full day in Serengeti National Park: |
|
After waking up at
sunrise and enjoying a quick breakfast,
begin game driving from
the camp exit in search
of early morning
predator activity around
the kopjes. The dew on
the long grasses
attracts a vast array of
mammals and birdlife and
the coolness of the
early morning keeps them
content for us to stare
in awe of the intrinsic
behaviours. We return to
the camp for lunch and a
midday rest before
setting off again in the
afternoon to the hippo
pool or acacia woodland
or nearby water sources. |
|
|
Day 6: |
|
Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater rim: |
|
Depart very early in the
morning with your skilled driver guide,
explore the Gol
Plains en-route to the Crater
Highlands. arrive to
the camp for a hot lunch
before taking a
Wilderness Walk with a Maasai guide to learn
the wonders of this
area, returning in time
for a sunset to remain
forever in your memory. |
|
|
Day 7: |
|
Ngorongoro Crater - Lake Eyasi: |
|
Enter the crater
early morning to take
full advantage of the
approximate 120 species
of mammals over 200
species of birdlife and
variations of natural
habitats. We venture
around the entire floor
before arriving to our
lunch spot lakeside. We
depart early afternoon
for the scenic transfer
to Lake Eyasi – home of
the Hadzabe tribe. |
|
|
Day 8 and 9: |
|
Lake Eyasi: |
|
Before sunrise, wake
to go hunting with the Hadzabe ‘Bushmen’ – a
strenuous task as we
walk miles in search of
small mammals with our
bow and poison arrows.
Return mid-morning
with our
‘hunter-gatherer’ wares
and enjoy a
well-deserved brunch at
the camp. A rest follows
and then you are able to
sit with the village
elders and discuss the
current issues of the
area and exchange
cultural tales. |
|
|
Day 10 : |
|
Lake Eyasi - Lake Manyara: |
|
Say good bye to our
‘Bushmen’ friends and
return the Rift Valley
floor of Lake Manyara.
En-route we enjoy a
lunch box and then enter
Lake Manyara for an
afternoon of game
driving the shores of
this soda lake. Our camp
is 5 minutes from the
National Park gate and
we arrive there late
afternoon for swimming
and relaxation before
indulging in a delicious
camp meal. |
|
|
Day 11: |
|
Lake Manyara - Arusha: |
|
Enjoy a relaxed morning around the camp
and a quick transfer back to Arusha
where you will check back into your
lodge before lunch. A free afternoon
follows in which you can visit the local
crafts markets, restaurants or museum. |
|
|
